Here you can download old but still ass kicking strategy games. These games are still worth playing them, although some of them are older than a decade... maybe older than some visitors! ;-)

Disclaimer: The Waronliner does not claim rights to any software on this page. To the best of our knowledge, these titles have been discontinued by their publishers. If you know otherwise, please contact us and we will remove them accordingly. Thank you for your attention.

Important: Some old games don't run on fast computers. I highly recommend, that you download Slow Down, a nice little program to... suprise... slow down your computer. It's also a good idea to use DosBox and D-Fend for your Old School Games.

Mad TV

SIM CITY
(MAXIS, 1989)

This is one of the best and funniest build-up strategy games ever IMO! Build your own city and try to manage your budget and various other aspects! You have to play it again! ;-)

Download SIM CITY NOW!

Mad TV

Mad TV
(Rainbow Arts, 1991)

Make Mad TV the Number-One-TV-Station. Now you can see if you can impress the woman of your dreams... But don't forget to concentrate on TV-Business, coz' that's the main thing! Very much fun this game - you play against two other guys played by the computer. You can see the reactions of your audience in a little monitor. Buy movies, news and ev'rything and see if you're good enough.

Panzer General

Panzer General
(SSI, 1994)

Panzer General is one of the best WWII strategy games ever developed IMO. I spent whole days, sitting in front of my screen while trying to conquer Washington DC for the Reich. ;-) Panzer General features different campaigns as well as a lot of great scenarios. Almost all units and its stats are done very well, graphics are nice, too.

Bard's Tale

Bard's Tale
(Electronic Arts, 1985)

A classic in RPG-games, Bard's Tale wasn't hugely known among the mainstream, yet it managed to garner a fanatic following, attested to by the hundreds if not thousands of fansites still in existence today, while Bard's Tale was originally published by Electronic Arts in 1985!

Motor City

History Line 1914-18 aka. The Great War
(SSI, 1993)

This is one of the very few World War I games that were developed for PC. History Line is a great WWI strategy game that features also a 2 player mode and a load of different szenarios. History Line is based on the Battle Isle engine, but much improved and better looking! Enjoy!

Motor City

Motor City aka. Oldtimer
(Max Design, 1995)

The last game developed and published by Max Design before they were bought out by Sunflowers, Motor City (marketed in Germany as Oldtimer) is an excellent simulation of the car industry that is sadly not as well known as Impressions' Detroit. Although they both tackle the same subject matter, Motor City is a much better game due to a more realistic and versatile economics model that underlies the game.

Colonization

Sid Meier's Colonization
(Micro Prose, 1994)

Combining trade, diplomacy, battles & social development in additive strategy. Play as the British, French, Spanish or Dutch and compete with other nations.Geographically realistic scenarios or randomly generated maps for endless playability. Great Game!

North & South

North & South
(Infogrames, 1990)

In the strategy part of the game, you can move your troops on a map of the US. If two opposing armies enter the same state, the battle is played out in an action sequence. Additional action sequences must be accomplished when capturing an enemy fort or train.

4D Sports Driving

4D Sports Driving aka. Stunts
(Mindscape, 1990)

At the main menu you can choose what track you want to play, what person you'd like to play against (or against the clock), what car you want to use, etc. The most interesting part of the game is that with it's great map editor you can easily make the most insane tracks you could imagine.

Centurion - Defender of Rome

Centurion - Defender Of Rome
(Electronic Arts, 1991)

The centerpiece of the game is real-time land battles. It may take a while to figure out the quirks and strategies of the units but it is well worth it. The game takes into account factors like unit moral, the direction units are facing (and being attacked by) and the general's abilities. These factors, along with army formations and tactics form an eligent and challenging experience which was unmached in gaming until the likes of "Shogun: Total War" came out almost 10 years later. A game ten years ahead of its time.

Warlords II

Warlords II
(Strategic Studies Group, 1993)

The swag of different units, the awesome soundtrack, the increase in the heroes abilities and bonuses as time goes on and the detail in the scenarios. The terrain movement bonuses of the various units makes forces you to combine strength and movement in a stack of armies. The AI was also quite astute. And did I mention the soundtrack?? The names of the kingdoms were great, especially the Balad Naran - curse their evil hides!

Master of Magic

Master Of Magic
(MicroProse, 1995)

Master of Magic is THE classic of all fantasy strategy games, and one of the classics of strategy in general. No other fantasy strategy game has reached its level, even many years later. And that’s one of the points that define a classic. If you’re a strategy fan, don’t wait anymore and get it.
